Late Monday, the group called on the Department of Justice to investigate as a hate crime an incident in which a Southern California Muslim taxi driver was assaulted after being asked about his religion.

Close to 500 protestors showed up at the Villa Park City Council meeting on Tuesday to demand that Councilwoman Deborah Pauley apologize for her comments outside a Yorba Linda fundraiser for an Islamic charity. At a special meeting on March 15th, the Villa Park City Council distanced itself from Pauley’s remarks, stopping short of censuring her for what has been called hate speech.
