Last week, ProPublica released an investigative report that alleged that Democratic elected officials manipulated the redistricting process. The report is fatally flawed from the start due to the false premise that the Commission was designed to prevent elected officials from influencing the process.

Termed out Irvine City Council member Dr. Steven Choi is a candidate for mayor in the 2012 election and it brings up all sorts of fun to look forward to in the coming election cycle. Choi, who embarassed himself and the city by wearing a Photoshopped image of then Speaker Nancy Pelosi as Stalin in 2009, was the subject of voter fraud charges from former Assembly candidate Jerry Amante, then Mayor of Tustin. Choi and his entire family were registered to vote from a rented condo/apartment in Woodbridge while the city councilman was still clearly residing in a posh Woodbury home.

We have just learned that Assemblyman Van Tran has conceded defeat to Loretta Sanchez. We have confirmed that Tran called Sanchez directly this evening to concede. As of 5 pm today the Registrar of Voters showed Sanchez expanding her lead to 9,752 votes. In order to win, Tran would have needed to pull 80% of the remaining ballots.
With the election behind us and it being a pretty good one for Democrats in California, please take a moment to say “goodbye” to these pols who won’t be in office after the first of the year. I’m sure our friends on the right will be doing the same thing to members of Congress and…
The suspicious part of me thinks that number is more reflective of Tran’s estimate of the number of late absentee ballots his campaign (allegedly) helped illegally dump at polling places across the district. There is (allegedly) a long history of Tran’s team gathering ballots from voters, and delivering them for them to the polls. This is of course illegal, but that hasn’t stopped this funny business over the years Tran has held office.
