TheLiberalOC’s Managing Editor Dan Chmielewski was on Real Orange last facing off against conservatives Rick Reiff and Michael Capaldi. I got the feeling after watching the segment that Reiff and Capaldi weren’t expecting Dan to be prepared or as on target in his dismantling of their right-wing arguments.
On Friday Afternoon, Orange County officials released a redacted version of the complaint letter filed by the attorney representing Deputy CEO Alisa Drakodaidis. The letter is the subject of a public records lawsuit filed on behalf of the Voice of OC by attorneys from Californian’s Aware earlier this month demanding the release of the letter.

Over the weekend I reviewed some of the old LiberalOC posts about the 2008 scandal where Carlos Bustamante got away with making sexist and inappropriate remarks about Sheriff appointee Sandra Hutchens in the Hall of Administration and in front of an LATimes reporter. Looking back, it appears that the dysfunction of the County Public Works Department, and CEO Tom Mauk’s oversight of management was readily apparent.

On Friday, Voice of Orange County reported that Deputy CEO Alisa Drakodaidis took a voluntary leave of absence for undisclosed medical reasons. In addition, the attorney representing Drakodaidis has sent a scathing letter to county officials leveling additional damning allegations.

On Friday afternoon the Orange County Board of Supervisors met in closed session to discuss the fate of County CEO Tom Mauk. No decision was reached and while he continues to hold the reins of power, Mauk is more of a Zombie CEO than an effective force in the Hall of Administration.

Chairman Moorlach has called a Special Meeting of the Board today at 3:00 p.m. The meeting puts the County CEO Tom Mauk in line to be the first executive management casualty resulting from the arrest of former Public Works manager Carlos Bustamante.
