On or about March 29th a press statement drafted by Council member Tyler Diep, was released to the Vietnamese media on behalf of the three Vietnamese members of the City Council, Tyler Diep, Andy Quach, and Tri Ta in their official capacities. Last night, the Westminster City Council held a special meeting to resolve the conflict over the desire of multiple groups to host commemorative ceremonies marking the fall of Saigon 35 years ago in 1975. A group of 38 organizations, led by First District Supervisor Janet Nguyen was the first to pull a permit application to use Sid Goldstein Freedom Park on April 30 for their ceremony.

While I will agree that spending $350,000 at a time of a major budget crisis and while we are laying off workers is ill advised and a bit out of sync with reality; I’m not sure that one out of four County Supervisors objecting really makes it a controversy.
Harriett Wieder, first woman elected as OC Supervisor, dies at 89

The Orange County Register reported Monday night that former Second District Supervisor Harriet M. Wieder has died. She was 89 years old. Wieder was elected to the Huntington Beach City Council in 1973 and became Mayor in 1976. In 1978 Wieder became the first woman elected as a Supervisor in Orange County. She served on the Board from 1979 to 1995.
