Yesterday, President Barack Obama took his case for immigration reform directly to the American people. Unfortunately, Many Americans probably didn’t even notice. All three major television networks indicated that they were not interested in interrupting their prime-time schedules for a Presidential address on immigration. While this is reality runs counter to the misperception that there is a “liberal bias” in the media, it is also a symptom of the growing apathy of the American public towards politics and government in general. Using the apathy of voters towards this November’s election as a measure, the networks decisions are understandable.
And today’s Congress, though, is full of folks who stubbornly and automatically reject the scientific evidence about climate change. They will tell you it is a hoax, or a fad. One member of Congress actually says the world is cooling. There was one member of Congress who mentioned a theory involving “dinosaur flatulence” – which I won’t get into.
“Our troops have been in Afghanistan for over ten years. They have fought, they have protected and they have trained. Despite thousands of lives and billions of dollars, the situation is not changing. Our soldiers are tired and it’s time for them to come home. Staying until 2016 will not tip the scales in Afghanistan. It’s time to end this war and bring our troops home.”
In this week’s address, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. They also thanked our brave troops and their families for their service and sacrifice, and reminded everyone to visit JoiningForces.gov to find ways to give back to our military families this year.
