On Friday Superior Court Judge Barbara Tam Nomoto Schumann released her written preliminary injunction issued on July 5, 2011 which prohibits the City of Costa Mesa from laying off the employees represented by the Costa Mesa City Employee’s Association.
On Thursday California Governor Jerry Brown issued an announcement of appointments to State Boards. The first on the list, was the appointment of Orange County Employee’s Association General Manager Nick Berardino to the Orange County Fair Board.
One week before the scheduled court hearing regarding the Costa Mesa layoff plans, the Orange County Employees Association on Tuesday renewed their offer to negotiate to avoid the outsourcing of City services which would force layoffs of more than 100 dedicated City Workers.
The audit identifies hidden pots of money, challenges many of the City Council’s budget priorities, and refutes the repeated insistence by City Councilmembers that Costa Mesa is on the brink of insolvency. According to the audit, it’s not.

The results of a performance audit of the County Human Resources Department (HRD) were released and they aren’t pretty to say the least. The 50 findings and recommendations illustrate a picture of a department where executive managers were sneaking through raises and promotions while no one was watching.
