In another incremental victory for Costa Mesa employees, a Superior Court Judge on Tuesday afternoon rejected the City of Costa Mesa’s motion to dispose of two of the four causes of action in a lawsuit challenging the layoffs of nearly half the City’s workforce.
On Friday Superior Court Judge Barbara Tam Nomoto Schumann released her written preliminary injunction issued on July 5, 2011 which prohibits the City of Costa Mesa from laying off the employees represented by the Costa Mesa City Employee’s Association.
Judge Tam Nomoto Schumann set a hearing for July 5 to consider whether to issue a preliminary injunction to stop the planned layoff of more than 100 workers represented by the Costa Mesa City Employees’ Association. In the lawsuit filed earlier this week the Employees’ Association requested the planned layoffs be stopped becaust they violate both state law and the workers contract.
