After two days of public outcry Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and Assembly Speaker John A. Perez announced that the Senate will take up the revised Senate Bill 71, which removes changes to the California Public Records Act, passed by the Assembly. The passage of the changes to the PRA had generated a firestorm of criticism from open government advocates and media outlets up and down the state.

Speaker John A. Pérez: California Must Unite Around Solutions

At his swearing-in as California’s 68th Assembly Speaker at the State Capitol today, Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) said his top priority is to get Californians back to work. In his speech, which was delivered before several hundred community and business leaders, working men and women and elected officials, Pérez said he would work to implement innovative ideas around job creation and government reform and he also pledged to work across both sides of the aisle to deliver results for Californians.

Sacramento, CA — John A Pérez was elected Speaker of the California Assembly today. Late Wednesday his main competitor for the spot Kevin DeLeon, conceded the contest to Perez. Perez was honored in January 2009 for his labor leadership by the Democratic Party of Orange County with the Samuel Gompers Award.
