At the end of a long day of interviews, the Board of Supervisors picked Hieu Nguyen, Daly’s challenger in 2010, for the Clerk-Recorder job. Nguyen, is currently a county employee of the Clerk of the Board office where he serves as manager of the files management and administration unit.
Hieu Nguyen says he was promoted to Assistant Clerk of the Board in 2006. Dictionary.com defines a promotion as an advancement in rank or position. That seem ather straight forward. In order to call something a promotion, you need to be advanced in rank or position.
There’s this old Schwarzenegger action movie that comes to mind every time I read an interview, see one of his campaign signs, or even visit his website for Hieu Nguyen. The movie is called “True Lies.” Schwarzenegger plays a man who has a secret life as a spy; not even his wife has a clue who he really is.
To great fanfare in his department, Hugh Nguyen graciously volunteered to take an additional 24 hours off each pay period through the end of the fiscal year. He currently works 24 hours per week as a manager collecting the full value of his pension and medical benefits as though he were working full time. For the record, Nguyen has arranged to work Tuesdays through Thursdays every week.
Hugh Nguyen’s campaign for County Clerk-Recorder has picked up another big endorsement today. The Orange County File Clerks And Receptionists Association (OCFCARA) has announced their endorsement of Assistant Clerk, Hugh Nguyen.
UPDATE: Judge Franz Miller has issued a ruling against Hieu Nguyen over his ballot designation. Hugh Nguyen got a little break though, he can use the “Assistant Clerk” title that he has with the Clerk of the Board. We have also learned that there is an additional challenge to Hugh/Hieu Nguyen’s ballot designation. This one of of his name. It seem that Mr. Nguyen, who is running for County Clerk-Recorder, has allegedly filed to run under an alias. Mr. Nguyen’s legal name is Hieu Nguyen. He is using an “Americanized” version of his first name Hugh.
