So time to conclude some of my elections picks for this year. I will begin with a some other races and go into Santa Ana, which has been quite contentious this go round, with our esteemed blog being right in the middle of the action.
This last Sunday I was contacted by a person who was doing polling for political races. This one focused on Santa Ana, particularly the Mayor’s race. The person began by going over a list of names and organizations and wanted to know if I Approved (Strongly or Somewhat), Disapproved (Strongly or Somewhat) or No Opinion.
Councilman Tinajero approached OC Weekly investigative reporter R. Scott Moxley with his story of a conspiracy to split the Latino vote in his race. Like any great investigative reporter, Moxley took up the challenge and reported Tuesday evening on what he had found. One key thing that I noticed from Moxley’s story is that he allowed Tinajero to present his case, and the witnesses and documentation to support his case. What was missing from the piece was a clear indication of how any laws were allegedly broken. Moxley was careful to not draw any conclusions on his own and let the reader decide.
The Orange County Young Democrats yesterday voted to endorse local Democrats who are running for local office. At last night’s endorsement meeting in Orange, dozens of young Democrats and guests from around Orange County gathered to listen to local candidates and elected officials discuss their plans for the future in a speed dating endorsement meeting.…
