Supervisors Campaign Finance Scheme: Bait and Switch?


At Tuesday’s meeting the Orange County Board of Supervisors considered how they would address the growing concern over possible campaign finance misbehavior and conflicts of interest in their ranks. Their response to calls for an ethics commission by the Orange County Grand Jury is, unsurprisingly, nothing more than the campaign finance reform equivalent of a bait-and-switch.

Fleischman in the middle of FPPC Complaint alleging illegal contributions

A 600 page complaint filed by former Democratic Party of Orange County Chairman Frank Barbaro alleges illegal contributions that helped lead to the Republican take-over of the reigns of Irvine city government. A total of $186,000 was poured into the Irvine mayoral and City Council races by Irvine resident and Republican consultant Jon Fleischman through California Term Limits PAC, which was formed three months before the election.

FPPC Takes A Step Backwards On Ethics


In a 3-2 vote, the Fair Political Practices Commission passed a rule that will exempt city council members from conflict-of interest regulations that prohibited them from voting on their own appointments to paid boards and commissions.
