A “Supreme” time to make some Decisions

UPDATE 6/17/2013: On Monday morning, the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to release one or more opinions from its current term with the remaining opinions issued by the end of the month. The pending opinions include rulings on both Proposition 8 on March 26th (Hollingsworth v. Perry), and the Defense of Marriage Act (U.S. v. Windsor) on March 27th, 2013.

Equality California Hails Historic Court Decision Striking Down Portion of DOMA

Equality California Executive Director Geoff Kors issued the following statement hailing today’s historic ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Tauro striking down Section 3 of the discriminatory federal policy known as the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Under the ruling, the plaintiffs are entitled to the same federal spousal benefits and protections as every other married couple.
