The long-awaited audit of the Enterprise Zone Voucher management contract awarded to the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce in 2012 was released just before the end of the year. The report demonstrates that when conservatives rush to outsource services to their campaign contributors, the result is invariably a waste of public funds and absolutely zero accountability.
In looking at tonight’s agenda for the Costa Mesa City Council, I find myself wondering if the Four Boys of the Council have been hanging out in secret a bit too much at Monahan’s Pub. In spite of the fact that they have been told by a judge that they cannot contract out to private contractors any jobs currently held by public employees they are still spending the time of City staff, high priced consultants, and the City Council, on the fools errand of outsourcing before determining feasibility, or if it will actually save any money.
This weekend, Voice of OC’s Norberto Santana, Jr. opened up some transparency on Costa Mesa Mayor Monahan’s openness during previous contracting out processes. It seems the most transparent part of Monahan’s record in this area is that he has no problem pushing to give put contracts exclusively to his friends.
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer lied on national television Monday about the so called “need” to layoff 213 Costa Mesa city workers. Righeimer was interviewed on Fox News and was asked whether the decision to layoff employees was forced or a choice. He answered by claiming that the layoffs were necessary because the city pension liabilities awarded by previous contract agreements were unsustainable.
