Thursday September 8 2011 began like any other day. It was a wonderful afternoon. But, around 3:30 PM everything all of sudden changed when I noticed power going out.

As we listen to the debate over the debt ceiling, government spending and an impossible-to-pass-by-Tuesday Balanced Budget Amendment, I am reminded of the phrase “those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.

“Congress consistently brings the Government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations.”

Today, we are filing papers to launch our 2012 campaign. We’re doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you — with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build.
