Saying he has the courage and intelligence to stand up to the special interests, Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones today announced his backing of Julio Perez for the California State Assembly.

It may be a coincidence, but I doubt it. Sometime between January 29th and Monday, February 13th, the listing of endorsements on Michele Martinez’s Assembly campaign website disappeared.

Calling him the best candidate, Santa Ana City Councilmember Sal Tinajero today announced his full endorsement of Julio Perez for the 69th Assembly District seat. Tinajero, who also serves as a public school teacher, has represented the communities that are in the newly drawn 69th District for the past 11 years.

Julio Perez holds the fundraising lead in the 69th Assembly contest based on campaign finance reports submitted today. Perez reported raising 114,747.27 for the 2011 year. Santa Ana City Councilwoman Michele Martinez holds the position of runner-up having raised a surprising $100,299.00 including a $15,700 loan she made to her campaign.
