The Anaheim City School District Board of Education declined to submit the state required Memorandum of Understanding to participate in California’s application for Race to the Top education funding. With the release of the state MOU on December 18, Districts were given less than a month over the holiday to examine it.

The California Teacher’s Association is now opposing the Race To The Top bills currently in the Assembly. The CTA-opposed SBX5 4 (Romero) has been split into two bills, SBX5 1 and SBX5 4. The amended version of SBX5 4 contains two of the most objectionable ideas developed in this special session on education: open enrollment and parent trigger.

Stop paying teachers and principals a salary. Instead, pay them on a per-standardized-test-point basis each day. At the end of the school day, simply give each student a standardized test. Then calculate what the teacher and principal will be paid that day based on the growth of the student, that is, on how much the student has improved over the previous day.
