The National Association of Secretaries of State voted in the summerto officially declare September 25 National Voter Registration Day. Over 1,000 organizations have come together to set up an unprecedented online and offline effort on September 25th to do for voter registration what Earth Day did for environmental activism with National Voter Registration Day.
It isn’t surprising to me that the Business Council would choose a red herring argument to oppose legislation the would help keep millions of future private sector retirees out of poverty. They raise the argument of budget deficits and claim that liability for retirement benefits will fall on the California taxpayers. It won’t.
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) Thursday hosted a critical forum on the pension crisis facing Orange County. Alongside OC Supervisor Bill Campbell and Orange County Employees Association General Manager Nick Berardino, Sanchez discussed the status of pension reform in Orange County, the status of her pension bill HR 2934, and the next steps moving forward.
At noon on Tuesday a couple dozen women gathered at the Old Santa Ana Court House to call upon the California Attorney General to investigate the failures in management at the County of Orange. Specifically they want an investigation of how those failures allowed the sexual abuse allegedly perpetrated by former Public Works Executive Manager and Santa Ana City Councilman Carlos Bustamante to go unaddressed for so long.
This weekend delegates to the Executive Board of the California Democratic Party met in Anaheim, in part, to determine party positions on the November 6th General Election ballot initiatives.
