The California Supreme Court on Wednesday denied the City of Costa Mesa’s attempt to overturn an injunction blocking the City from laying off more than 100 City employees and outsourcing their jobs to the private sector.

We’re hoping that today’s special City Council meeting in Anaheim to decide whether to place two initiative proposals to amend the city charter on the November ballot doesn’t erupt into violent protests similar to those which disrupted a council meeting earlier this month. At noon on Tuesday a couple dozen women gathered at the Old Santa Ana Court House to call upon the California Attorney General to investigate the failures in management at the County of Orange. Specifically they want an investigation of how those failures allowed the sexual abuse allegedly perpetrated by former Public Works Executive Manager and Santa Ana City Councilman Carlos Bustamante to go unaddressed for so long.

Neal Kelley at the Orange County Registrar of Voters has released the estimated number of Provisional and late Vote-By-Mail ballots remaining to be counted in the 69th and 72nd Assembly district contests. As we reported yesterday, these races have a significant number of outstanding ballots remaining to be counted which may effect the final placement of candidates in the top-two primary election.
