Cal State University Fullerton announced this morning that Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez will address Cal State Fullerton’s graduating class during this year’s May 18 commencement ceremonies. Richard K. Davis, chairman, president and chief executive officer of U.S. Bancorp, will be Cal State Fullerton’s May 17 commencement speaker, on the first of two days of graduation ceremonies. The Class of 1983 alumnus will be awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters.
North Orange County Community College District Trustee Michael Matsuda, and long time friend of LiberalOC, has been appointed by the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees a Superintendent for the district. Founded in 1898, the AUHSD has a student population of approximately 31,000, making it one of the largest school districts in the state.
Greg Diamond, Northern Regional Vice President of the Democratic Party of Orange County, has thrown his hat into the ring to challenge Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas. Diamond announced to DPOC central committee members on Monday that he would be running and on Wednesday announced his campaign at the monthly meeting of Los Amigos-OC.
The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) has opened its own investigation of Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido over a property swap that resulted in a 197,000 profit to the mayor. The FPPC is investigating possible violations by the mayor, according to a Feb. 18 letter from the agency. The possible violations include failing to report economic interests in the property, as well as the transaction itself, and Pulido’s vote on the $1.35 million contract awarded to the previous property owner.
As Dan wrote previously, Memphis at the Santora in Santa Ana is closing. Our favorite restaurant and bar has been the host location for our weekly Drinking Liberally gatherings since August of 2006.
