Gustavo Arellano has either been fired from or resigned from OC Weekly.  The Liberal OC learned his OC Weekly Twitter account was shut off the the locks to the office were changed.

The Liberal OC was told Arellano resigned because he was told to lay off half the staff.  The OCWeekly Facebook page says Arellano resigned.

Arellano made an appearance on the Tom Leykis internet radio show today and took credit for Hillary Clinton’s win in OC last November.

Yes, I’m laughing about that too.  For OCWeekly staffers, tell me how you feel.  Anonymity guaranteed.

  7. The OC Weekly print edition benefited me greatly over the years in that it was very helpful when I needed to collect the dog crap in my back yard.

    I hear it also was beneficial for those men that sought comfort in narcotics and trafficked women.

    • Here’s the story in this morning’s LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-gustavo-arellano-20171013-story.html. What doesn’t hold up right now is a simple fact; have any other editorial employees also been let go? If Gustavo was told to cut headcount in half, and he’s the only one to go, there is perhaps a bigger issue at play about his direction for the paper. Its hard to find in my neck of the woods in Irvine.

      The biggest surprise is that OC Weekly owns the copyright to “Ask a Mexican.”

      • Some other observations: 1. Gustavo did not get a “farewell” column. 2. His boss has not issued any statement about Gustavo- no “wish him well in the future” etc or anything – the only comments are from the vague OC Weakly social media voice- who wrote that stuff? 3. Also, he really could not negotiate the rights to the (tired and increasingly shrill) “Ask a Mexican” column? That thing means nothing to the paper – seems vindictive he would not take it with him- but maybe in retaliation to his over the top behavior. Did anyone hear him on Leykis? He was raging – sounded uneducated, volatile and at times, a bit crazy. I would say his end was abrupt, ugly and a total crash and burn. Adios, racist.

      • Yes, I am banned from commenting – too bad, I would have told the recent story of seeing Vern at Johnny’s Saloon, so drunk he could barely form words. I saw him leaving and he slurred he was going out to wait for the bus. This seemed so pathetic that I offered him a ride home. This was right before his marriage – when he lived with his parents. He remained conscious enough to tell me the address, I map quested it and got him own. At one point i wasn’t even sure if he was alive. Once “home” he stumbled out of my car weaved his way to the door. It took him about five minutes to get there. A sad, ugly display. I hope he’s getting the help he needs, but judging from his writing, he’s still struggling with demons and booze. Five DUIs. Jail time. What a terrific legacy. As for Greg, what can you say? At some point I will release the emails from him. For those that already know him to be a cowardly, dishonest, unethical lawyer (you should see the formal complaints recently put together for the bar) prepare to be dazzled.

  14. Pardon my sensibilities, but if I were a gravely ill alcoholic, like Nelson and my brother just succumbed to the same disease that KILLED him, I would consider changing my ways, dramatically altering my habits, friends and situations that put me in that situation.

    Dude should concentrate on his recovery and moving to Adelanto to get a fresh start. Otherwise, come St. Patrick’s day, that dude is knee deep in Jameson.

    As for the salt free whale…….Greg is a sad, sad man. Lonely, poor, unliked and disrespected.

    • When Vern helped arrange the cop killer vigil on the HB pier with Monica, Gustavo, Victor and the rest of his sleazy cabal, the cops here took note. These cop hating race baiters outed themselves and it blew up in their faces. AND Vern had already been arrested for DUI #5. but of course it was all being kept secret. Now look at them. Gustavo gets canned. Victor’s police records are released. Monica, well everyone knows she is an abject racist lunatic (in my opinion) and Vern is about to get thrown back in jail. Yeah, really valuable community members. Can’t get enough of these folks.

      • If this is all true (and I am not saying it is not) why do you suppose Victor and Greg (and Vern by implication) receive so much respect at the Central Committee meetings from Chair Fran Sdao? What do the police records on Victor contain? I have not seen those. I did run a cross a ticket it appears Greg had received in Garden Grove and got removed quickly from public record and it was then dismissed “in the interest of justice.” Bizarre – looks like someone pulling power strings as I have never seen anything like that in the court record before. Why go through all of that for an infraction? So many questions. How does Vern get 5 DUIS, George has about as many and a felony assault charge, along with Victor just getting off of an 18 month Drug & Alcohol program in September, but yet Greg comes out unscathed? Is he their designated driver or what? How do you stay in the center of drugs and alcohol and abuse like that for an extended period of time without leaving those friendships if you are so pure? Why be the sidekick that supports this behavior? Why does the DPOC find them so valuable?

    • Ask yourself why the chair, Fran Sdao fawns over both Victor Valladares and Greg Diamond. Why does it appear that someone scrubbed Fran Sdao from the internet? When you say Greg is CRAZY, I have not seen any medical report on that issue but no one can dispute his voluntary, impromptu over-the-board drawing of a phantom line at the election for chair in May was jaw dropping. Why did Greg Diamond use his time and efforts to get an infraction scrubbed from the court docket where you cannot even see the ticket anymore?     • Nobody in HB can figure out where Victor and Oscar Rodriguez get their money to fly to Sac like it’s a bus. Neither of them work. Victor hasn’t paid child support since February. He is UBER close with teacher’s union sweetheart Gena Clayton-Tarvin. Like REALLY close.
