And what a miserable year it was. As we look forward to 2017, there’s a roadmap to follow to organize and inform and work hard for change.
The dark days of 2005 show Democrats can come back. It’s a simple choice: wallow in self-pity or aggressively move forward in a more unified fashion. Uniting to oppose President Trump, his administration and a Republican Congress should be easy. But it can’t be done until Democrats heal divisions within the Party nationally and locally.
The brutal primary campaign severely damaged and ended long time friendships for many. It’s time to remind Democrats that what unites us is far greater than what divides us. In many ways, the tenure of Henry Vandermeir mirrored that of President Obama; Henry was successful in spite of significant obstacles and obstruction from members of our own party.
The next chair of the DPOC has a daunting task of herding cats, raising money, and leading. Whoever is elected chair in 2017 deserves the support and the respect of OC Democrats on the Central Committee. It’s time to remember we’re on the same team and its Republicans we need to oppose and voters hearts and minds is the game to win.
Thank you readers for turning to TheLiberalOC since 2006. Choose to make 2017 a Happy New Year.
