Dr. Jose F. Moreno is running for Anaheim City Council in District 3 against Jordan Brandman, an incumbent council member who is openly gay. Moreno announced via email he had received an important endorsement from HONOR PAC, a non-partisan group that focuses attention of the LGBTQ Latino/Latina communities. And as this announcement came across my email, I received a copy of a 496 IE report from Howard Ahmanson, a millionaire who spearheaded the “Yes on 8” effort to ban gay marriage.
Ahmanson is a believer in gay conversion therapy. Do the folks at HONOR PAC know Moreno is getting financial support from one of their biggest haters?
Here’s the report:
And here’s Moreno’s announcement:
It is with great pleasure HONOR PAC announces its endorsement of Dr. Jose F. Moreno for Anaheim City Council District 3,” states Mario Ceballos, President of HONOR PAC. “Like all of our endorsements this decision we did not come by lightly.”
“Dr. Moreno has demonstrated his strong leadership and advocacy, empowering the Latina(o) and LGBTQ communities, and we believe that as an Anaheim City Council Member he will continue to advance progressive policies in support of HONOR PAC’s mission. We look forward to working with Dr. Moreno to ensure that all LGBTQ Anaheim residents, regardless of immigration status, receive the same treatment, respect, opportunity, and protection afforded to any other resident of this great city.”
In addition to receiving HONOR PAC’s endorsement, I am pleased to have the support of many Orange County LGBTQ Leaders and Activists:
Eric Altman ∙ Ann Cameron ∙ Denise Penn ∙ Hans Johnson ∙ Laura Kanter ∙Jeff LeTourneau ∙ Onassis “Oni” Yumul ∙ Dean Mancina ∙Hugh “Damien” Nguyen ∙ Bob Tucker ∙ Duy Nguyen-Amigo ∙Justin Nguyen-Amigo ∙
Kevin O’Grady ∙ Audrey Prosser ∙ Angel Van Stark
Thanks to the decades-long efforts of organizations like HONOR PAC, leaders and activists of the LGBTQ community, we have made great strides in seeking equality for Lesbians, Gays, Bi-Sexual and Transgenders, but there is still much work to be done — too many on a daily basis, right here in Orange County, continue to face discrimination in employment, in housing, in healthcare, in education and who they choose to love. Our Latina/Latino LGBTQ Brothers and Sisters are particularly disenfranchised. As your Councilmember, I will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Orange County LGBTQ community to promote policies that embody a culture of kindness, fairness, and opportunity for everyone who lives, works, and plays in Anaheim!
With appreciation and gratitude,
Dr. Jose F. Moreno
Anaheim City Council District 3
