Sharon Quirk-Silva had perhaps the best freshman term of any assembly member who won the 2012 race. Her loss to Young Kim last November was more a result of terrible voter turnout than a reflection on the job she did.  She announced on Facebook that she’d challenge Young Kim to a rematch in 2016.

“During the last four months, I have reflected a bout future plans and goals.  I have decided to make another run in 2016,” Quirk-Silva announced on Facebook.

More on this on Monday.  In what’s expected to be a heavy presidential year, Quirk-Silva’s base will surely get to the polls while Young Kim will have almost no meaningful record to speak of.

(here’s her complete statement)

As I look toward 2016, I want to acknowledge and thank our local community members and friends. So many of you have been with me on this journey for over a decade.
I will also be officially launching a campaign to run for the 65th Assembly in 2016.
Since I left office at the end of November, I returned to my profession as a classroom teacher. I am proud of this profession that I have had for over 28 years in the great city of Fullerton.

During the last four months, I have enjoyed some extra rest, I have reflected about future plans and goals- even trying out a administration masters program for a Saturday ( not doing this now, maybe later), and I have decided that I am ready to make another run in 2016.

My new teaching position is at our local jr. high. I teach English Language Learners, and Interventions. I work very hard to help students become motivated and engaged in their learning. I started reading John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success out loud to students. I found many motivational You Tube videos for students. While I was showing these videos, using the theme of NEVER GIVING UP, I started thinking about my own goals, about winning, losing, and why I would want to run again.

After much thought, I decided to take the advice that I had been giving my students, simply, “Never Give Up”, “Fail your way to success”, “Get up and try again”, ……

I want to run again because I am compelled to take this journey. I want to do this to create unimagined possibilities for families, students, veterans, and our community. I want to continue to make a difference in the community I love! For more information, please visit www.sharonquirksilva.com
