The program, which will start with the fall 2015 kindergarten class, will be housed at DeMille Elementary School, located at 15400 Van Buren St, Midway City, CA 92655. Further details about the program will be provided at the school board meeting.
“I am incredibly proud that our district will be the first district in California to offer a Vietnamese/English dual immersion program,” said School Board Member Jamison Power. “Starting the Vietnamese-English dual immersion program was one of my top priorities when I was elected, and it feels great to see it come to fruition. This is truly a historic day for our district and the Vietnamese-American community.” Power added, “I am proud to be part of a school board that recognizes the importance of this program and I am especially proud of our Superintendent, Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps, for making the program become a reality.” Power, whose wife is Vietnamese-American and who has a 15 month old son, said that he plans for his son to attend the program once he is old enough.
