Yesterday former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona lost another appeal related to his January 2009 felony conviction on one count of witness tampering. He is currently serving a 66 month prison sentence in a federal prison in Colorado. His appeal alleged that the trial judge incorrectly calculated the term of his sentence.
A three judges hearing the appeal denied Carona’s request saying that the judge did not make an error in his sentencing decision. The court said, “The sentence imposed was not substantively unreasonable.”
Carona is expected to complete his sentence late in 2015.
