Irvine Mayoral Debate Set for Wednesday

Irvine World News columnist and Republican pollster Adam Probolsky will host a mayoral debate at Irvine City Hall this Wednesday.  Should be interesting because Probolsky has been critical of Republican candidate Steven Choi for using Photoshopped images of Nancy Pelosi with Soviet dictator Josef Stalin and posing for photos with someone who had an image of Pelosi as a Nazi SS officer. Probolsky chided Choi for belittling historical tragedy.

Here’s the email invite to the Mayoral debate:

Dear Friends,

There’s nothing better than watching a debate live. This Wednesday, October 10th, at 5:30 p.m., the three candidates for Mayor of Irvine – Larry Agran, Steven Choi and Katherine Daigle – will participate in a debate at Irvine City Hall. This is a public event. We hope you can attend.

Let’s face it: When it comes to shaping the vision for a city, Mayors matter. They matter a lot. Their experience matters. Their thinking matters. Their respect for the community matters.

When he last served as Mayor from 2000-2004, Larry Agran kept his promise to defeat of the El Toro Airport and advance the Orange County Great Park, building on his legacy of pro-community initiatives. From open space preservation and support for education to investments in public safety, Larry Agran fights to keep Irvine moving forward.

When Beth Krom served as Mayor from 2004-2008, city reserves were tripled to $30 million and Irvine was distinguished for the first time as America’s Safest City. Beth implemented the Strategic Plan for Children, Youth and Families and Orange County’s first Green Building ordinance.

Our current Mayor, Sukhee Kang has leveraged our reserves effectively, preserving core services despite the economic downturn. Under his leadership, Irvine has continued to be recognized as America’s safest city, and has earned distinctions as a top ten “best managed,” “economically vibrant” and “best places to live and work” in America.

This election will determine whether we go forward or backward. Steven Choi and Katherine Daigle want to take Irvine in a different direction. Hear from the candidates themselves about their vision for Irvine. Adam Probolsky is hosting the Irvine Mayoral Candidate Forum on Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, inside City Hall at One Civic Center Plaza – at the corner of Harvard and Alton.

The future of our City is worth talking about. Please come to the debate.

Thank you!

Dan, Adam Probolsky is anything but an objective moderator in the election arena. We haven’t forgotten that Probolsky is the same guy who has a past of sending out hit mailers on candidates from his own Republican Party and cost Lynn Schott enough votes to allow Larry Agran a small amargin of victory. For that reason alone, Probolsky’s credibility is somewhere in the minus 100 range and I wouldn’t give him the time of day.

In case you didn’t get the word, Team Irvine has decided to pass on the Probolsky Forum and Steven Choi will not be in attendance. That leaves only Larry Agran and the Agranista stealth candidate, Katherine Daigle, to carry on the debate. Now that should be a real performance to watch. Rumor on the street has it that both Agran, Krom and Daigle are using the same East Coast Political Consultant, so the Forum will be a setting of “Pete” and “Re-pete.” Think I will stay home and watch Round 2 in the National Debate, where Ryan gets to clean house on “foot in his mouth,” Joe Biden.

Pat — Choi can barely put together a coherent thought much less a coherent sentence. If he’s not showing up, that sends a message to Irvine voters that he’s afraid. Probolsky is a Republican Pat,,,this should be easy pickings for Choi.

You make an intersting claim on Daigle, without a shread of proof. It’s called lying Pat. Something Romney, Ryan, Choi and Shea are good at.

OK Dan, then tell me for a fact that Daigle is not using the same Washington Political Consultant as Larry and Beth. I indicated that it was only rumor from the street, but from a reliable source. I am trying to get the Consultant’s name and will share it with you when it comes, not that you care. Also, can you suggest with a straight face that part of Agran’s strategy in past elections has not been running stealth candidates to syphon off votes from his competition? Perhaps you don’t know Larry Agran as well as you think or maybe you are just in denial? Try talking to Mark Petracca and Chris Mears sometime, they were both Agran insiders who are not there any longer. They can tell you why? I had t laugh when you commented on Probolsky being a Republican. He is a two faced RINO, because real party people don’t target and destroy their own candidates. Enjoy the debate beteen Pete and Re-pete.

I don’t know Daigle. I couldn’t tell you what consultant she’s using. Who is your reliable source? Shea? The same people who encourage you to sue the city four years ago and you lost? I still don’t see a single fact to support your claims Pat. Rumor and innuendo. Your boy is a chicken, plain and simple. And you’re not bothered by Choi’s associated with the Nazi SS photoshops? Imagine if Larry did something like that. Pat, any comment on the Irvine Chronicle from 8 years ago where Choi and his pals stole copyrighted material? You have a twisted idea of what constitutes morals and integrity. “Isn’t that a lovely tea party” (quick, what movie is that from readers).

If Choi loses, he is gone from Irvine politics. That should be incentive enough for Irvine voters to toss him out.

Pat — I giot to ask Daigle that very question tonight. Is she a real candidate or not? She says she’s been asked that several times adn doesn’t know where it came from. She says she didn’t know Agran before the campaign, and she’s not a plant.

Your reliable source on this is wrong and as a surrogate for the Choi campaign, it’s dishonest of you to push this meme. But we both know honesty isn’t a quality found in two members of your ticket — the ones who “forgot” they were investigated for voter fraud and “forgot” they threatened two city employees even though its all well documented.
