Listeners to the John and Ken show on KFI are all to familiar with the phrase “Heads on a Stick.” HBO’s popular series “Game of Thrones” was caught by an astute viewer when the show’s producers used a prop of former President George W. Bush’s head, with a long haired wig, and placed it on a stick for one of the show’s episodes this past season.
The producers apologized saying they were not making a political statement but needed props for the scene and there was an extra Bush head available.
This is one of those “write your own joke” moments. But it explains so much about what the hell happened to the federal government from 2001 to January 19, 2009.
From the post by media observer Jim Romenesko:
Game of Thrones” producers say using George W. Bush’s decapitated head was “not a political statement. It’s just, we had to use what heads we had around.”
We use a lot of prosthetic body parts on the show: heads, arms, etc. We can’t afford to have these all made from scratch, especially in scenes where we need a lot of them, so we rent them in bulk. After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush.
I’m thinking the show should offer Bush a role next season. Certainly he’s qualified to play the role of the village idiot or court jester. Maybe “town drunk” is available.
