The following information came in this afternoon from the Occupy Orange County folks.
THE OCCUPATION MOVEMENT COMES TO ORANGE COUNTY!
WE ARE THE 99% AND WE HAVE REACHED THE TIPPING POINT. THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING AND IT IS A MOMENT RIPE WITH POTENTIAL- AND HOPE.
Our corporate media, owned by the 1%, have for too long been feeding us a one-sided narrative about our world and our roles in it.
We are one of numerous organizations supporting a coalition of activists from all walks of life ready to Occupy Orange County at the Civic Center Plaza & Park in Irvine.
The occupation will begin with a rally on Saturday October 15th at 10am. There will be a 1-mile march from the intersection of Alton & Harvard via Alton and then right on Jamboree to a protest at the intersection of Jamboree & Barranca from about 11am to about 1pm.
Preliminary plans include rallies, marches, and protests of various lengths at various times every day (schedule to be provided at OccupyOCIrvine.com to be determined by occupation assembly) from the intersection of Alton & Harvard through Orange County’s Financial District and/or Orange County’s Airport. WE ARE THE 99%.
With the Wall Street Occupation getting so much attention this week, we have an unbelievable opportunity. As big a story as the Wall Street Occupation is this week, the media might very well have moved on by next week; BUT NOT IF WE HAVE PUBLIC FACING ACTIONS IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD, TOWN, AND CITY ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
The story about rage on Wall Street suddenly becomes a story about rage everywhere, the need for Jobs Not Cuts everywhere, the need to Make Them Pay everywhere!!!
The occupation movement could take a great leap forward and explode into the consciousness of the country. These opportunities don’t come around all that often. Occupation Wall Street launched this movement because they saw the power of what was happening in Wisconsin and pushed themselves- and we are joining our strength in solidarity with theirs.
This is another such moment, but only if we seize it. We must rally, march, and protest in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement.
OCT 15 Saturday 10am-1pm, Irvine
