SANTA ANA, CA – The Committee to Re-Elect Loretta Sanchez today announced that Congresswoman Sanchez has accepted an invitation to debate Assemblyman Van Tran on public television station KOCE.

“I look forward to having a spirited discussion about the important issues facing our community – our local residents deserve nothing less,” said Congresswoman Sanchez. “Orange County families need a leader who isn’t afraid to tackle the tough issues. I’m more than ready to discuss my fight to create good-paying jobs, strengthen the middle class, and revitalize California’s economy.”

“Congresswoman Sanchez has always made herself accessible to her constituents and this debate is no different,” said Caroline Hogan, press secretary for the Committee to Re-Elect Loretta Sanchez. “Orange County families deserve honest answers to the issues they care about. The question is: will Van Tran speak candidly about his role in the California budget crisis and his support for massive cuts to education, health care, and other important social services?”

I volunteer to be the debate moderator, the one that determines what the important issues are.

I would ask Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez why she voted to end the Glass-Steagall safeguards for America’s banking system in 1999. I would also ask candidate Van Tran how he would have voted on the Financial Services Modernization Act, the act that killed Glass-Steagall, (the Banking Act of 1933). I would also ask both why restoring Glass Steagall safeguards is not an important enough issue to receive mention on your web sites.

The link below takes one to an 11 minute You Tube video that explains the importance of Glass-Steagall, the numerous legislative acts that weakened Glass-Steagall, and who the major Wall-Street players were that finally killed Glass-Steagall.
