Let’s Hear Those Voicemails

Our friend Art Pedroza had a post on Orange Joke late last night and early this morning, which he yanked before I could actually see it.  From the snipets we were able to find, Art had a phone call with his friend Richard Zavala and claimed Zavala was planning to sue me for libel.  We’re grateful to Art for getting Zavala to confirm that Zavala in fact made calls to 4th district supervisor candidate and Anaheim city council member Lorri Galloway.

In a comment to our post, Art writes:

“I spoke to Richard. He called her campaign number, once. He never called her home number, that is a straight up lie.

He left a message questioning why she had no platform, no experience in the major issues facing the Board of Supervisors, and he questioned why she took money from the Taorminas.

He wasn’t threatening her. He was voicing his opinion, which is shared by many.

Since when is it illegal to call campaign numbers and question the competence of carpetbagger candidates?

Zavala is not the bad guy. Galloway however is a horrible candidate.

By the way, you guys posted the home address of Cecilia Iglesias and never apologized for that. Nice.”

(BTW Art, I’d argue all those things were true of Janet Nguyen when you shilled for her during her first run for BoS, but I regress)

We paid a visit to Lorri Galloway’s office this morning and listened to the messages sent to her home answering machine, which she was able to access from her Eli Home office.  And we listened to the messages on speaker phone. And the messages themselves can be heard on this YouTube video we produced this afternoon.

The second message in particular spells out a phone number that is the work phone for a Richard Zavala, who is a policy analyst with the California Project on Access to Care (CPAC) through the University of California at Berkeley School of Public Health which is affilitated with the UC Office of the President.  That second call was made on March 2 at 3:29 PM, right in the middle of the work day.

CPAC is: “…brings the resources of the University of California to address significant healthcare policy issues affecting California’s low-income populations.

Through independent research and policy analysis conducted by the academic community both inside and outside of the University of California, CPAC expands and enhances dialogue among government officials, healthcare advocates, and academic researchers.

CPAC conferences, publications, and technical assistance activities work to improve both the access to healthcare and the quality of healthcare for immigrant workers and their families, low-income households in agricultural and rural areas, the working poor, and other vulnerable populations.”

Our friend Sean Mill made a big deal of of an LAUSD access to the Orange Joke blog once (and LAUSD policy says it’s OK for employees to access sites like the Orange Joke during the day); I wonder how he feels about a harassing phone call made from a UC-Berkeley phone on the taxpayers dime?

The Anaheim Police are investigating this incident.  At what point does the caller move from verbal harassment to something more daring?  Is Zavala a threat to Galloway’s safety?  And what is unclear is where exactly does Mr. Zavala reside?  Is it the Bay area where the job seems to be or is it Orange County where the caller says he’s from?  How will UC Berkeley react to someone making harassing phone calls to an elected official on the taxpayers time and dime?

The messages are creepy and threatening.  Would you want your wife, mother, sister, or daughter to get a call like this on their home phone?  While the caller has the “courage” to make such a call, he certainly lacks the testicular fortutude to leave his name behind.  Unfortunately, not the smarts to know technology left some fingerprints behind.  Lorri seems unmoved by the calls but has taken steps to make sure they were reported to authorities as anyone should.

And back to Art and his (retracted) claim I’ll be sued for libel.

All the information in my original post is attributed to Galloway. I used quotes around “Richard Zavala’s” name to which placed speculation as to the identity of the caller (until Art cleared that up for all of us).  But the calls are clearly harassment calls and note I only recorded two, which is one more than what Art reported Richard told him he made.  The voice on both the voice mails is clearly the same person.

And a last note to Art. I spoke with Ceci Iglesias at an event at Senator Lou Correa’s office on Feb 2.  I asked her if anyone had harassed her at home her home since this blog published her address in the post Claudio Gallegos wrote about her candidacy for Congress.  No one has.  And I asked her why she thought anyone might go after her or her son at her home, since the filing deadline of March 12 means her home address will be a public record.  She had no response to that, but I did suggest if she was uncomfortable having her home address be a public record she had no business running for Congress in the first place.

But you know Art, she also had no idea what NAMBLA was.  So I told her.  And I told her what you did in routing URLs you once owned to those sites.  I also told her we were suing you for it.  Did you know her son is 7 years old?  Imagine that.

For our pal Joe Sippy somethingorother….you have some hearing problems. The second call came in from the 510 number and the “I recognize your voice” comment is a reference to the voice on Lorri’s video, not a message.

As far as my signoff goes, well, that’s how we did it when I worked in radio news back East…

i actually got a chance to read pedrozas’s post while it was up and it was pretty wacked. he talked about cheminowski’s stomach being stapled and thats why he’s so angry because he cant eat or drink anything. the post was so out there i’m hoping pedroza was either drunk at the time or on drugs because that would have at the very least given him an excuse for such a crazy post.

Art, as usual, has no idea what he’s talking about. I can eat quite a few things but fried foods, fatty foods and very sugary items are off the list because they make me sick. My family, friends and colleagues will attest that I’m actually more positive, a lot happier and have more energy since I had the surger. For those wanting the update, I’ve dropped 170 pounds since November 2008. As far as being angry, well, I never sent an email with the subject line of “veganza” like he did.

Just noticed Art spent some considerable time on my business website yesterday. IP addresses don’t lie. Wonder what he’s looking for

This guy is a freak and any woman in the right mind would him locked up. Moreover, he represents the kind of people at FFFF.
There some things that I do not agree with Lorri regarding politics. However, I would never go the extra mile to leave her threatening voicemails. That’s pushing it and it is also very unprofessional and sick.
What really disturbs me about this creep is that he is leaving bothersome and upsetting voicemails at her home. First, that is just plain dirty. Lorri her husband and daughters do not deserve to hear this kind of foolishness and trash in their home. Second, this concerns me very much because she is a woman. Lorri is a professional, attractive, and sagacious women and I can imagine that she does not feel safe. No woman would feel safe at their home while receiving these kinds of messages. In short, I hope the cops find that loser and locked him up; he is a threat to society and women.

I listened to the messages, and there was nothing threatening about them. Creepy yes, but not threatening. He asks when she is going to quit, and quite accurately points out what a pathetic candidate she is. But he does not threaten to do anything to her if she does not quit. When I first heard Lorri was being harrassed I was upset, i do not like her but nobody deserves that. But if this is her idea of harrassment, she is a big whiner. The man did not say anything on that voicemail that is worse than what a LOT of people say about her on blogs and news comments. Gimme a break. Living in the 4th district takes more backbone than her pedicured little thin skinned self can manage. Go home to the hills Lorri.

I wouldn’t want my wife or daughter or sister or mother to get messages like this from anyone. If you don’t think the messages are threatening, your opinion of course, but I see it as the first step on a slippery slope downwards. I wonder if this is the same guy who called Matt Cunningham a few months back. And whether you think it’s threatening or not, is it OK for a phone number at Cal-Berkeley to be used during business hours to harass a candidate and an elected official?

No I object to his using work resources on work time, but this post is not about the wasteful habits of civil servants, it is about poor abused Lorri. I am not buying it. I have certainly been the subject of far worse nastiness, and I am not running for office in a District where I do not belong. It isn’t a nice thing for him to have done, but I do not think it is worthy of the time and hysteria being drummed up. Lorri has thin skin, did she expect to have the people of the 4th District fall at her feet in gratitude because we obviously are too backwards to produce our own candidate? The woman is so unpopular in her own District that she would rather take her chances with conning strangers into voting for her than wait for the seat in her own district. But she runs for the nearest press release when someone objects to her vapid views? Come on.

Get a clue Rabble! Lorri is not afraid of jerks like this. She’s stood up to them for abused women for many years. Her purpose was to expose his identity and his illegal use of phones on company time. No decent women would ever think this is ok to be treated like this by a man or anyone else. If they do they are just as sick as this guy. Keep on revealing your true self, Rabble. It is quite entertaining.

This is harassment and she is not a big whiner. Also, for her to come out and and reveal those voicemails takes a lot of courage. Moreover, there is a huge difference when someone makes those kind of careless comments at your home. For instance, one may write all they want about her on those blogs but when they take their time to call her home while she is with her family is ridiculous.

I wish her the best, and I know that this strong individual will do well and strong in the fourth district campaign!
