There will be a press conference at 1:00 PM.

UPDATE:

Statement by Sheriff Sandra Hutchens on the verdict in the trial of former Sheriff Mike Carona:

“The men and women of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department are relieved that the court proceedings have concluded. The charges served as a distraction to the outstanding work of the rank and file of this department. The department has initiated many changes; it is important that we all look toward the future.

“The residents and businesses we serve can rest assured that we remain focused on our core values of integrity without compromise, service above self, professionalism in the performance of duty and vigilance in safeguarding our community.”

As of 12:36 PM PST, no coverage of this on RedCounty.com, OrangeJuiceBlog.com, or FlashReport.

Carona is now a Convicted Felon; He is a disgrace to his badge, his office and Christians in general. I hope there’s jail time involved here.

Only in American, where convicted felons get paid 200k per year for past crimes.

And what do the county politicians have to say about these great benefits they pushed upon the taxpayers?

It is only fair. Government official deserve to live the good life no manner what there crimes are.

(Reasonable doubt need s to be defined.)

    Dan:

I was in a lunch meeting. I only found out when my wife called me half an hour ago to tell me, and just got back.

So, no conspiracy of silence, thank you.

    I saw.

And I also noted Gordon’s post.

But I disagree with you on the conspiracy of silence. The OC Republican establishment has been noting but quiet on this. Your Flash Report post (Jon couldn’t sully his hands?) predicts the lone guilty charge might be overturned on appeal. Personal relationship with Jesus Christ my ass.

If Carona had been a Democrat, he would have been convincted without a trial. Instead there’s a sense of gloating from the vast right wing conspiracy in OC.

But at least you were honest enought to admit he’s a cretin.

If Carona were a Democrat he would still be Sheriff and would have never been tried. Dan who are you trying to BS

Quite an assertion OCGator if not for one factoid: in the Carona case, the federal prosecutors, federal agents and federal judge are, gulp, Republicans.

One has to love Scott Baugh’s soundbite that he would have never supported Carona if he had known about his infidelity.

Baugh says he didn’t know. More than likely he didn’t want to know.

Baugh, Schroeder, and Fleischman all pushed this slime on the rest of us. No one should ever forget that.

Scott, the citizens of OC owe you and the OC Weekly a huge debt of gratitude for your yeoman’s work in this regard. The OC (by God) Register never even came close to reporting the allegations. And they wonder why they have become a laughing stock.

Carona is all giddy and proclaiming God’s will over this verdict. He was acquitted. That doesn’t mean he was innocent. Frank Mickadeit’s column has a soundbite from the woman who sat on the jury that is ironic. Mikey runs over to thank her and she says, “don’t thank me, I thought you were guilty.”

Given the lack of remorse he is showing, one can only hope the judge throws the book at him. Does anyone know if there are guidelines the judge must follow in this case? Or is he given complete discretion?
