Dae Yoon, the executive director of the Korean American Center in Los Angeles, is calling on Irvine City Council member Steven Choi to “withdraw his comments about CAIR and apologize.”Â
Contacted by The LiberalOC.com, Yoon said its its unfortunate that Dr. Choi refuses to meet with CAIR over his comments or withdraw his comments calling CAIR a terrorist organization. At a recent Irvine Chamber of Commerce candidate’s breakfast, Choi warned the public against supporting a candidate with ties to a “dangerous and Islamic” organization, referring to Council Candidate Todd Gallinger’s connection with the Southern California chapter of CAIR.
“CAIR is a good organization that does a lot of good work in this community,” said Yoon. “We have worked with them a number of times.”
Yoon continued, “As an incumbent council member, Choi is elected to serve the community. His comments about CAIR are out of line and don’t make sense. He should be more honorable and watch what he says.”
Yoon left a comment on a blog authored by So Cal chapter CAIR executive director Hussam Ayloush which said:
“I am so so terribly shocked and disappointed by council candidate Mr. Choi’s comments.
As the incumbent city councilmember, it is very hard to believe Mr. Choi publicly commented baseless accusation to CAIR.
I truly believe Mr. Choi must make a formal apologize to CAIR as well as his constituent if he really works for the people in his community.”
The Liberal OC contacted Yoon and confirmed the comment as his.
