Does a Backer of Shea’s & Choi’s No on R in Irvine Have a Shady Business Past?

Matt Coker at OC Weekly offers this follow up to an earlier post on the financial backers behind the No on R effort in Irvine backed by Christina Shea and Steven Choi.  One of them, Enterprise Co. of Santa Ana, gave $4,000 to the measure.  I wonder what’s in it for them?

Matt writes:

Enterprise Co., which was incorporated in 1969 under the ownership of Orval and Albert Gould, has a solid reputation nationally when it comes to the design, engineering and manufacturing of equipment and systems for the solid waste, scrap processing and resource recovery industries. According to the company’s blurb on RecyclingToday.com: “Enterprise Company turns your visions into reality.”

But Enterprise helped turn the visions of Marion County, Florida, into a nightmare in the 1980s, when Orval Gould was in the middle of a fraud scheme that also involved Italian mobsters and Orange County’s adopted son, John Wayne.

Choi has formed a Committee to Run for Assembly in 2010

I just got a robocall from the Re-Elect Steven Choi to City Council.  Good thing I wasn’t eating anything, because it would have been too much.  The call extolled all the reasons why we Irvine voters should re-elect councilmember Choi.  It neglected to mention he has already formed a committee to run for Chuck DeVore’s assembly seat in 2010.

Dr. Choi is asking Irvine voters to send him back to City Hall when he clearly has designs to leave it in 2010; why wait?  Say it with me A-B-C.  Anybody But Choi in ‘08. Don’t re-elect him to a job he clearly doesn’t want.

Who’s Funding the No on R & S Effort in Irvine?

The OC Weekly’s Matt Coker does a nice job summarizing the folks supporting the No on Measure R & S campaigns in Irvine.  In the fine tradition of Stephen Smith of the Irvine Tattler, I’d like to suggest that these funds are all laundered to a Shea slush fund designed to finance anything Larry Agran is for.  These bribes were used to buy signs and robocalls… (Of course, I’m being sarcastic).

My favorite parts of the article….

City of Irvine Prevails in Lawsuit Filed by Council Candidate Pat Rodgers

I have received word that the City of Irvine has prevailed in a lawsuit filed by Council candidate Patrick Rodgers and former IUSD Trustee and City Council member Greg Smith.  I post have details as I get them.

The suit, filed by Greg Smith, planning commissioner and former councilman, and former police officer Pat Rodgers, alleges that the city violated state open meeting laws.  The two, allies of Mayoral canddiate Christina Shea and Council member Steven Choi, sued the city to challenge what they claimed was a closed-door “settlement agreement” with a high-rise developer.
