Obama raises a cool million plus in Newport Beach
The Orange County Register’s Jeff Overley reports that Senator Barack Obama raked in more than $1 million on Sunday for the Democratic National Committee at his fundraiser at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. Obama spoke to 275 guests, who had contributed as much as $28,500, after being introduced by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass.
Is $1m for that event considered good, vg or excellent?

I am a loyal New Yorker reader and I am sure they were aiming for the opposite effect — I imagine they were trying to make fun of those bottom feeders who see the Obamas as depicted on the cover in question. The New Yorker’s track record of progressive positions and exposing Bush Administration abuses is unimpeachable and I would bet that most of their staff are Obama supporters. Alas, from the buzz around this it is looking like instead of the satirical intent, it is helping the cause it seeks to mock. People are taking the cover at face value — talk about an attempt at humor “misfiring”!
