I respect Benny's honesty. I have meet him last year and know him to be a good guy.

I think though that the intentions of bringing these kids may have been more about creating a perception that there are many young people involved in the campaign more than wanting to imitidate DPOC voting members.

See, know with picture of Hoa with many younger people the issue turns to of the many volunteer(or paid workers) only two unfortunately were involved in a gang and evidently doing bad things.

Regardless, Hoa again needs to fire Eduardo.

No one wants to discourage young people from being involved in the political process but the "process" should not involve intimidation and violence.

If volunteers are there to be thugs then they are merely volunteer bouncers. I'm just at a loss how something like this can be tolerated by the party.

Gangs, however much created by the socio-economic circumstances, should not be tolerated because they breed on fear. Gangs are a byproduct of a system that does not care and that does not help minorities have an alternative, it's sometimes necessary to survive. So how does supporting gangs by supporting a candidate that uses them help promote the Democratic agenda of economic equality, education for all and most of all, safety for our citizens?

TL,

Many are not of voting age as of yet. That being said both parties utilize young people that are not of voting age to do phone banking and other work within campaigns.

I don't have a run down on every single volunteer, but I would suspect the folks at the DPOC don't have a dossier on every single person that volunteers at the HQ either.

Most of these young volunteers are young high school students who are excited about being involved in the political process. Are you suggesting that we should try and supress this type of volunteerism?

Sean,
I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. Ocdem1 and grumpy old dem are right on this one. Say what you will, but to me the Hoa campaign is in total disarray, and with a big assist from Reynoso, has guaranteed that somebody with the last name of Nguyen will win in June. Reynoso is well known within the DPOC for his boorish behavior and rampant use of fear to intimidate staff, especially the female staff. Maybe it’s not an issue to you-being a huge, strong, he-man of a guy. But what does that say to all the female members in the DPOC when their party won’t stand up for them against a certifiable creep like Reynoso? Do you know what its like to worry that? It tells me that the party does not care about the general safety and welfare of its members, and I find that totally unacceptable. The DPOC Central Committee and Executive Board have it within their power to put an end to this, but chose not to. We, as Democrats often portray ourselves as having “the bigger tent”, welcoming of all comers regardless of race, age, or orientation. Notice I’ve left out gender, because it’s getting harder to make that argument after last night. As Democrats we should aspire to be better than this. Sean, really ask your female counterparts within the DPOC how they feel about Reynoso. Ask his former female staffers if they like showing up for work worrying what Reynoso has planned for them that day. Ask them if they like walking to their cars in fear. Ask them what he does to them when he’s angry. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a “rainbow and lollipops” account of their time with him. To paraphrase David Bowie, we’re putting out the fire with gasoline……….

Sean,

Show me how many of those young "volunteers" were registered to vote.

With all this spinning you could have made an excellent addition to the Politburo.

Where is Senator Correa in all of this?

After all, it is his brother in law, Reynoso, who is behind the shady filing statements and hiring of "alleged" gang bangers. I ask any Liberal OC reader: if it were your brother in law, what would you do? I haven't heard Correa say one thing about all of this. We've got probable willful violation of county and state election laws and campaign workers shooting people and landing in jail.

Step it up and do something, Senator! How can you claim to care about the well being of our community when you don't seem to care about your crazy brother in law hiring these folks?

Does he deserve a standing ovation for FINALLY reporting his campaign reports correctly? Not to mention the fact that the report looks like it was faxed, which technically means that it was not filed...as I believe campaign reports have to have original signatures.
