Contact the Municipal Water District of Orange County who organized the Orange County Water Summit for video of the event (it was professionally captured).

Event details were:

Date: Friday, May 2, 2008
Time: 7:30 am - 1:30 pm
Place: Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel, Costa Mesa

The program segment titled "Gridlock" was supposed to focus on how efforts to fund water projects via legislation. Speaker Karen Bass and State Sen. Lou Correa were scheduled but were replaced by Assemblyman Mike Duval and Crazy Dana.

There were reporters from the Register, so I was suprised there was no mention of Crazy Dana's comments.

just asking-

Please feel free to email me as well about this... at atdnext@gmail.com. If you don't mind, I think just this is worth its own blog story here. We're always trying to keep up on new developments in CA-46. Dana really shouldn't be allowed to get away with his craziness. :-)

Just another reason to get rid of Crazy Dana...

At the recent OCBC Water Summit, Crazy Dana filled in for Loretta Sanchez who couldn't attend at the last minute. Crazy Dana tried to take credit for water projects in the OC (that he did not support) that Loretta had carried the legislation for. Then...

Crazy Dana went off on how he loved "American Children" more than dirt! Dirt held no value with him, and that why he was so opposed to protecting dirt or some "stupid mouse". He then spewed about how we needed to increase our use of coal burning power generation plants and offshore drilling for oil. When asked by an attendee what he intended for offshore drilling. Crazy Dana said he supported new drilling off local beaches! The crowd was stunned to say the least and this portion of the meeting was quickly brought to a close.

Crazy Dana's aid's got him out of the room pretty quickly.

We always bring up "Bolsa Chica Wetlands" which like "Trestles" is kind of a code for "good fight for the environment" .. but here's something a lot more tangible, that I didn't realize till recently since I was out of the state in the 80s and 90s:

You drive down PCH through Sunset Beach and Seal Beach, or through Newport Beach, and look toward the ocean, you mostly don't see it because of all the apartments and buildings. But you drive through my town, all the way from Brookhurst to Warner, and you see the beach.

This is due to, more than any other one person, Debbie Cook's fight to preserve our beaches in 1989-91. (The Measure C struggle.) She took on the whole city establishment and huge developers who were hellbent on building a golf course and a mall right by our pier, and (along with a few other heroines like Connie Boardman and Flossie Horgan) built a huge grassroots movement in this conservative town.

That's the kind of person we need to send to Congress. Remember that when you drive down PCH thru HB, and chip in a little at Act Blue (or walk with us, we're fun!) And stay tuned for "I Got a Crush on Debbie Cook" -- I'm adding some more good vocals and instruments to it this week...
