Who's casting judgement? I sent a list of al those who endosed him when he first ran and all those who supported him last time around. No one is suggesting he not have the same access to the judicial system. We have nothing to be ashamed of.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant; we want all the facts to come to light.

Have you read the indictment? What you read Moxley's coverage of the Sheriff's alleged misdeeds? Have you ever asked him if any of it was true? Have you ever asked for an explanation?

Journalism 101; your mother says she loves you; check it out.

I am on the Endorsement list for Sheriff Mike Carona. I still support him because he is presumed innocent until found guilty in case you have forgotten he has the same judicial rights as the rest of us.

I am proud to know Mike Carona on a personal level and it is hard for me to believe that such a straight arrow can go so far astray from the path of justice.

He has been a loyal friend to me and I shall remain a loyal friend to him.

All of you casting judgement before the facts are heard should place yourselves in his shoes. You would want due process of the judicial system as it is your right as an American in this society.

To think that Mike Carona should not be given the same access to the judicial system is ridiculous and you should be ashamed.

It's a shame more voters don't understand what an endorsement means. The average voter thinks that Bob Politico endorsed Mary Candidate because he thinks Mary will do a good job.

Nothing could be further from the truth! Bob has probably endorsed Mary as payback for past favors, future promises, alliances with Mary's friends, or fear of what will happen if he DOESN'T endorse her.

It makes me sick.

It's really no wonder that some people don't bother to vote and others won't even register.

It's tough for an elected to make a case against endorsing an incumbent who has a strong chance for re-election. Especially in OC where a not endorsing the Sheriff leaves a person open to accusations of not being tough enough on crime.
I'm fascinated to see which electeds had the cojones to buck the GOP machine, take into account the questions raised about Carona's integrity (see OC Weekly investigations that go back many years) and NOT ENDORSE the Sheriff for re-election in 2008.
Loretta Sanchez and Joe Dunn are two of the biggest names that don't appear on the lists.
Which other prominent politicos are missing?

Understood, and your original point was good about Carona's ethical shortcomings...who knew?

But in this case you had a Democrat with an excellent law enforcement background and the GOP machine was backing Republican Carona., whose own law enforcement credentials were weaker in comparison. Carona was their man in their perpetual pursuit of hegemony behind the Orange Curtain.

So maybe the Dems who endorsed Carona in 98 should have at least taken your advice and not endorsed anyone.

NCS, as far as I'm concerned there's no problem with Dems endorsing Reeps in non-partisan races. In all but the most liberal of areas the sheriff and DA candidates will probably be Reeps regardless. The problem I have is with people of either party endorsing candidates who have obvious problems.

I sometimes hear "but the other person was so bad!" Well, then don't endorse anyone.

Some would say the fault in endorsing Carona in 1998 was he was a Republican endorsed by the County GOP and was running against a Democrat, Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters, the latter endorsed by the AOCDS and the recent Gompers Award winner, Wayne Quint..
