Another One Bites the Dust; Bloomberg Leaves GOP

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg delivers his state of the city address in January 2007 apNew York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has left the Republican Party.  Here’s the story. He is now a registered independent.  He governs decidedly to the left.

“I have filed papers with the New York City Board of Elections to change my status as a voter and register as unaffiliated with any political party. Although my plans for the future haven’t changed, I believe this brings my affiliation into alignment with how I have led and will continue to lead our City.”

It’s worth noting (as I read on Political Diary the other day) that Bloomberg was a lifelong Democrat who only registered Republican in order to avoid the crowded Democratic primary field when he ran for NYC Mayor.

    Hey Jubie,

Could you please point out to us crazy libs where reeps spent time beating up on Bloomberg when he changed parties?

He was a GOP for however long and the conservative movement embraced him. Now that he’s no longer in the club we all of a sudden hear about his previous affiliations.
