The California State Senate became the first state legislative body in the country to oppose Bush’s troop surge plan on Monday when they passed a resolution to urge Congress and Bush not to escalate U.S. involvement in the war.
I was less than satisfied to see this paragraph in the San Francisco chronicle regarding the resolution:
The nonbinding resolution, which will be sent to Congress if it clears the Assembly, was approved by the 40-member Senate on a largely party-line vote of 22-14. Voting “no” were 13 Republicans and one Southern California Democrat, Lou Correa of Orange County.

Well, Correa has never claimed to be anything but a moderate. Although I am surprised that he didn’t choose to sit this out instead like four of his Senate colleagues.
All in all, a resolution in support of a non-binding resolution (even on an issue as important as the undeclared war in Iraq) seems like a strange use of our state legislature’s time.
